This entertainment notebook comes out with an AMD 64 bit processor(AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK55 Mobile Technology) that is a bit of a cheap version of the Turion, but it does the job. So after replacing my 1gig of Ram with 2gig and formatting that awful Windows Vista, I found it running like a charm with Ubuntu 9.10. I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and I did not have a single issue. The graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 7150M) is ok for your older games like Hitman 2, and I have not had one Linux game that did not work on it. The sound from the on-board Altec Lansing speakers are very good. This is an entertainment laptop that I would recommend for any basic user. To work, play and be entertained.

I ordered the HP Mini 210-1012ei PC (WH525EA) on a Sunday and it was delivered without any issues on the Wednesday. Obviously the great service I received from hpshop has contributed to my satisfaction with this netbook. This HP Mini model has the 1.66 Ghz Intel Atom Processor N450, 1GB RAM, a 250GB hard drive, a 5-in-1 card reader, a webcam with integrated microphone, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, a 3-cell Lithium-ion battery, an Ethernet connection, 3 USB ports as well as a microphone and headphone combo jack.
I have a 17” HP notebook for everyday use, but it is too heavy to lug around when I travel. The HP mini 210 is feather light and easily fit into my hand luggage. I chose this model, because I wanted the black crystal design on the casing (I’m female, give me a break ). This meant that I got the 3-cell battery which can last about two and a half hours, depending on your activity. Other models of the HP mini 210 come with the 6-cell battery, which can last about four and a half hours, but which extends a bit at the base of the netbook. However, I prefer the battery to be flush with the rest of the casing. It is possible to order a 6-cell battery later on if you find it necessary. Overall, I love the sleek look of the netbook.
The 10.1 inch screen is glossy, so if you prefer matt screens, this netbook is not for you. However, the screen is clear and easy to read. Glare can be a problem, but it is with all glossy screens. The keyboard has the chiclet style and is 93% the size of a normal notebook keyboard, making it comfortable to type on. The trackpad is a bit different to the normal notebook touchpad, but it is easy to get used to scrolling down with two fingers. Just be aware that the mouse buttons are integrated in the touchpad and this can initially make dragging a bit troublesome.
Windows 7 starter comes pre-installed, and although it has some limitations (you can’t change the desktop background, no multi-monitor support etc), I don’t find it to be an issue, as I use this netbook mostly to browse the web and check email. It is possible to upgrade to other Windows 7 flavours though. The netbook also comes with HP Quickweb, which means you can boot quickly to this instant-on operating system, which I have not really found useful yet and I have turned it off on my system. You can also access 2GB of online storage space with HP Clouddrive. I have installed and used MS Office 2007 successfully (you do get a 60 day trial version pre-installed). Video playback is possible (I installed VLC for this) and the audio is OK.
I would suggest budgeting for an upgrade of the RAM. The 1GB is fine, but I expect a better experience with2GB RAM. Luckily that is an easy DIY job, as the casing can be clipped off. That said, don’t expect the Intel Atom processor to perform like your desktop or notebook – this system is not a replacement for it. All in all, this is a great netbook and perfect for my travelling requirements.
